Bentley has released a remarkable film, Continental Drift, where his new flagship Conti GT, Speed, runs around an abandoned Air Force base. Comiso, on the island of Sicily, was once part of the American Cold War nuclear resistance  here it is the playground of Bentley’s leather-lined missile.

The big 2 + 2 involved some hilarious overstairs, proving without a doubt that this is a new ground for Bentley: a real driver’s car is hell for having a good time.


The Speed replaces the standard car’s open def with an ELSD, allowing for rear-wheel drive four-wheel drive and a healthy 650 bhp. For the first time, four-wheeled steering wheel has been introduced in the Conti GT. And from suspension calibration to active anti-roll control set-ups, driftrain torque divided into ESC thresholds, redesigned for short nails: to turn a benign GT into a nimble and exploitative game.

This is definitely a subtle change outside …

It’s not a supersport, remember – Bentley needs to strike a balance between appearing outwardly aggressive and changing things enough to embrace you. So, in addition to badging, the speed features new carbon fiber doors, unique 22-inch wheels and darker accents. The convertible roof comes in seven colors and even a tweed fabric is available.


Inside, the cockpit has been hit with Alcantara sticks suede-like material can be adopted on the steering wheel and seats. Bentley’s vast customization options give you a choice of 15 main and 11 secondary leathers for upholstery and the speed can be trimmed to a new diamond-patterned aluminum veneer. For the convertible, the seats have integrated neck-warming.


Shall we be? Give me a performance space!

It has grown up to 6.0-liter W12, 650bhp and 664lb ft, good for 3.5sec 0-62mph sprint for coupe and convertible 3.6sec sprint. Both models can achieve top speeds of 208mph. All very impressive numbers, but the power increase is not the only upgrade.

Speed rear wheels have steering, for example, allowing more mobility at lower speeds and stability at higher speeds. The rear wheels of the Panchia Conti have an electronic limited-slip differential, which allows more adjustment in the mid-corners and pulls them out with as much traction as possible. Or, if you want, you can turn off the stability and get the drift. Carbon silicon carbide brakes are introduced with speed with 10-piston front caliper and four-piston rear.

When and how much?

Prices are not yet known exactly, but Bentley boss Adrian Hallmark told us that the new motion would be launched in Europe and the United States in the third quarter of 2021, then the rest of the world in the fourth quarter. He expected the price to be about 20% higher than the current 12-cylinder Continental.

Bentley Continental GT: What you need to know

Bentley’s new GT is fast, smooth and now jam-packed with technology, as we saw at its 2017 world premiere in metal at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

This new Conti seems familiar …

Pretty much. The new shape is a mix of new signals from the predecessor’s crease and the XP10 Speed 6 concept we saw in Geneva in 2015.


The headlights and huge mesh grille are a mix of Bentayga and the aforementioned EXP concept, but the swooping front sills in the bumper look a lot like replacing it with the previous generation Continental. The rear has a simple oval rear light and a rifled oval exhaust.

The aluminum body is made using a process that heats the metal to 500 degrees Celsius and provides a sharp crease and saves 80 kg weight compared to the previous model.


The changed proportions came from Conti’s new Porsche Panamera-derived chassis. There is a lower nose, the front wheels have been moved 135mm further forward and the engine has been pushed backwards to improve weight distribution.

So it still looks like Blenheim Palace on wheels … Next!

Hold on a minute: Bentley promises more detailed changes under the skin.

The new Conti GT features the Bentley Dynamic Ride, which uses a 48-volt electrical system to help control body roll and ride comfort. There are different drive modes depending on whether you are traveling to Monaco on the weekends or choosing a haircut with the Alps.

Air suspension is also standard, while a raft of safety technology means the Conti GT is up to date with the rest of its big Grand Turing rivals.

Still unreasonably fast?

Oh, absolutely. The refreshing 6.0-liter W12, coupled with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive, launches the larger Bentley at a top speed of 62mph and 207mph in 3.7 seconds.

There is even a launch control function if Jeeves wants to take some rapscallion on an M4 CS and come up with flashes of style and circumstance.

On the flipside, the W12 has cylinder deactivation technology so you can avoid the hassle of going to the fuel station once every 200 miles instead of every 150 miles.

What about the interior?

The biggest news is the redesign of the dashboard, which includes a new 12.3-inch touchscreen that rotates behind a panel of wood veneer and a cluster set of digital devices.
